Learn to tango

Want to Learn to Dance Argentine Tango?

Argentine Tango exists in many forms from the show tango of Strictly Come Dancing to the more gentle social dance done in the milongas of Buenos Aires and around the world.  We teach the social dance, which can evolve towards something more ‘showy’ as you become more skilled and experienced.  To give you an example of the social dance this video shows one of our very popular guest teachers, Gabriela Fernandez from Buenos Aires doing a demonstration to a group of her students in France.

Our next beginners’ courses will be run in September 2014. If you would like to book places please email Rosemary AT Suffolktango.org.uk or call 01394 383908.  In the meantime there may be more ad hoc ways to get started sooner so please make contact.

Learn to Dance Argentine Tango

Learn to dance the elegant, evocative social dance of Argentine Tango. The initial ten-week beginners’ course runs on Mondays at 7:45pm starting in September 2014 at Kesgrave High School, IP5 2PB. Cliff and Rosemary will teach you the essential elements of Argentine tango so that by the end of the course you should be able to lead or follow your partner with confidence. After this the course continues in five-week blocks with Richard and Mandy working on improving technique and competence in the dance and expanding the repertoire; you will also be able to move on to a variety of other extra classes, workshops and social in the area.

Prior booking is essential, but no need to book with a partner. Bookings will be confirmed once we have checked leader and follower numbers (if you can bring a partner all the better). We always rotate partners to speed the learning process and to make the evening more fun.

The course is planned around taking people who may never have danced before and getting them dancing whilst also having fun in a good social environment.

£40 per person for each block of five 2-hour sessions including a CD of the best traditional Argentine music to listen to/practise with at home. Apply now because places are limited and we only run this course once every 12 months (NB: over 18s only).
